Love is in the Air....

This post got lost in cyber space - my apologies!

February and Valentine's day are close at hand, and love cards are everywhere!  I am not a girly girl, hearts and flowers just don't excite me.  Operation Write home is always in need of love cards and masculine cards, and I think this one meets both needs!
The kraft and black papers are from my paper stash.  I stamped the key background with a 1.5" interlocking stamp from the Lovebirds set from SEI.  The hemp cord is from my beading stash (remember - I am a serial crafter!), and the sentiment is from Cloud 9.

Groundhog Day is coming, and so is the February Words 2 Scrap By challenge!  Come play with us!!

Less is More 208

This week over at Less is More is a sketch challenge.

I read a post over at Simplicity about shading paper, and then die cutting.  Between Susan's post and the sketch, here are my cards.

Version 1 uses ribbon for my vertical element.  Nice, but not quite right.
Version 2 using a hoarded piece of silk moire paper for the vertical element.  Better.
Version 3, black silk moire layered onto a black base.  Wish the sentiment was a little lower, but I like how the black base layer frames the top layer.
I painted white paper with 3 colors of Twinkling H2O paint, then used a Spellbinder die to cut the top layer of the butterflies.  The bottom layers were cut with black paper.   The sentiment is from Unity. I am also going to link this up to the Shopping Our Stash Not Your Normal Paper.  The black moire was reclaimed from the envelope liner of a wedding invitation from years ago.  It was waiting for the right project!

A frustrating day in the craft room...

I had such high hopes for the day.  DH had to work, my son was occupied, and my chores were finished early in the day.  Play time!!!  I had a stack of challenges and sketches that I planned to address.  Failure after failure.

My first failure was my attempt at OWH Sketch 247.
OWH Sketch 247

I tried to add the horizontal piece, ribbon, another cork strip, a paper strip - just didn't like covering up the shells printed on the cork.  The border punch on the left really bothered me too.  So, on to my second failure.
Another piece of printed cork for the Shopping Our Stash - Not Your Normal Paper and The Paper Girls Challenge #72 - Cork.  This time more layers, punched borders on the right, horizontal element.  Nope, still not feeling it.  Acceptable, but I think I will try again tomorrow.  Yes, tomorrow is another day...

A Blue Thank You

I am on a shopping diet.  I have more supplies that I could use in a lifetime.  While digging into my considerable stash, I came across an old Cloud 9 Wild Indigo paper pad and matching embellishments.  Really masculine brown and blue patterns, not too big for card making.  Stash diving is kinda like shopping, right?

The papers and letter stickers are from the same line.  Not sure why the letters look greenish in the photo - they match perfectly in person!  This one is for The Male Room Shades of Blue challenge, and the OWH mid-month throwdown Thank You challenge.

Welcome Baby Addy!!!

My dear friend Barb's first grandbaby arrived yesterday.  Addy's arrival was a little more dramatic than we would have liked, but mama and Addy are well.

This project has been rolling around in my head for weeks, and like Addy, has finally come out!!

This little photo album will follow little Addy through her first year.  Every month, there is a page for a photo and another for journaling.  This was my last set of journaling cards are from Little Yellow Bicycle, long out of print.  Does anyone else sell cards like these?  Help!!!

I will tie some satin and organza ribbons onto the ring.  I had to take them off for the pictures.

This project includes a wide variety of papers, including flocked, textured, and quite a few with sparkles! I have made a bunch onesie shaped of photo books, this is my first dress shaped book.

You are welcome to download the SVG I used to cut the 39 dresses needed to make this project!!!  My KNK Zing cut them like butter.  Click HERE to download the SVG.  Please let me know if 4Shared is acting up, and I will try another host.

Shopping Our Stash #184 - Hide & Seek

This week's challenge is Hide & Seek, use a hidden element somewhere on a project.

I have a Marvy punch that I won in a grab bag and have never used.  Perfect challenge for this unloved tool!!

I added white and pink hearts into the punched folders.  The sentiment was stamped in VersaMark, and dusted with Darcie chalk.  Boy, that is the way achieve the chalkboard effect!  Thanks, Diana!!!

SOS #183 - Happy NEW year

Shopping Our Stash has challenged us to use something NEW on our project.  No problem for me - I was quite blessed this Christmas.  I asked for, and received, a Spirograph.  I know - that's a kid's toy.  The person who gave it to me laughed, but I wanted to see if I could draw elements to use as a focal point.  Here is one of my better tries:
This one will go to Anna - the person who gave me the Spirograph!  I hope she likes it, as she was more than generous...  Old Sizzix texture plate, Spellbinder dies, ribbon rescued from a Victoria's Secret shopping bag layered with white satin Offray ribbon, sentiment from Fiskars.  The jewel in the center is from Above Rubies Studio.

Be sure to check out the January challenge at Words2SrapBy.blogspot.com - #youchoosetheword(s)!!

I also want to enter this into Pixie's Playground Challenge.

MSC - Mod Squad Challenge - Thank You

The first Mod Squad Challenge of the year is Thank You.  And who doesn't need a bunch of Thank You cards right after the holidays?!?

I received this great Spellbinders background die for Christmas - it helps when you buy some of your own presents LOL!!!  I cut the background in black and red, then added some of the contrasting cut outs to the red background and white card base.  The sentiment is die cut with a Cuttlebug die, the circles from Spellbinders and Sizzix.   Easy, but love how crisp it looks!

OWH Sketch #246

The sketch and my version:

OWH Sketch 246

Unity Stamp image and sentiment.  Marvy die cut hearts.  I decided to forgo the second embellishment in the upper left corner, given the placement of the heart on the ion.  Texture fans, don't despair.  The card base has a herringbone type texture, black on the outside, white on the inside.

Check out the Words2ScrapBy.blogspot.com challenge for the month of January - #youchoosetheword(s).  Hope you can join us!!

Happy New Year!!! W2SB Challenge #13: #youchoosetheword(s)

Happy New Year!!!

Sybrina has a great challenge for us this month - #youchoosetheword(s).  We are to make a card or project that includes a hashtag sentiment.

I used a Cuttlebug folder for the background and die for the sentiment.  I made the hashtag from small strips of paper.  I think this will be a good one for Operation Write Home!

NBUS Challenge #3 - Anything Goes!!

Darnell runs great challenge - Never Before Used Schtuff.  I know I could probably play this one forever...

Here is mine, using a new Unity stamp I bought myself for Christmas:

I think these will be great for Operation Write home!!!  I used die cut hearts on the left card, and colored the hearts on the right.
