OWH Mid Week Throw Down - Clean and Simple

This week's challenge is to make a Clean and Simple card.  Perfect for me!  CAS is my favorite style of card, and they are much more difficult than they look.
I CASE'ed this one from My Craftroom Creations

I made a couple different versions:

The one on the left was first.  I wasn't happy with it.  I cut the chevron paper to follow the rule of thirds, but the placement of the ribbon messed that up.   I do like how I trimmed the sentiment banner on this one better than the second card.  The card base is black on the outside, white on the inside.  I like the contrasting layering, and the button I found in my stash was perfect.

The one in the center came second.  I like the proportions better, but the white base lacks the visual pop of the first card.

I often make more than one version of a card, experimenting with different proportions, patterns, and embellishments.  I learn a lot through the process.  I really appreciate Paula's Boot Camp tutorials, they are very specific about a particular aspect of cardmaking.

Update:  I realized that the card needed a pop of color.  Hence the red button.  I love it!!!

Sentiments from Above Rubies Studio, ribbon from my OWH blog candy score, buttons tied with 1/8" ribbon.  Chevron cardstock from MME, polka dot paper from Recollections.  My mother loved going to garage sales, and bought every button she could find for me.  I have thousands of buttons of every size and shape imaginable from which to choose.  Thanks, Mom.  I really miss you.

  1. Love these! The second one is bit better, because of the proportions. You rocked the black and white color...nice job!

  2. You did a great job on this Clean & Simple card challenge. Both cards are outstanding but my favorite is the chevron.

  5. Wonderful cards, Bobbi! The chevron is my favorite, as well. I think the ribbon has more contrast against the chevron paper. Great job!

  6. Bobbi, all three cards look terrific - I don't have a favorite because I think each one is just perfect. Great job!

  7. Bobbi,

Hope this finds you well. Thanks for the kind words you've been leaving me.

I really enjoyed reading about the evolution of this card. And, I agree with you about the pop of color the red button adds. I know what you mean about using things given to you by our Moms. On my Mom's last Christmas, she gave me a complete set of DMC cross-stitch floss. (Cross stitching was my crafting-of-choice at the time.) Every so often I find just the right color for a card in that box of floss. The red button is such a perfect way to honor your Mom.
