Playing around....

I bought some of the pen sized misters, thinking I could make my own.  Well, that didn't work out very well.  I tried to make some using Perfect Pearls, and clogged not one, not two, but three of the misters.  I know, my own fault.  Should have given up after I clogged the first one.  Or even the second!  I finally got one to work, and I now see that I ruined the nozzle - it sprays out too thick, and covers rather than spritzes.

Cheery Lynn butterflies and Our Daily Bread Hello dies cut with post it paper for masks, Unity sentiment on right.  Tangled Glass Distress Ink.  Simple, but I am very happy with both cards. I am sharing these with Shopping Our Stash Splish Splash (use a wet medium on the project), Less is More Lucky Dip (use sprays or mists), and Addicted to CAS (blue).

Z Fold Card

As much as I want one of the cool Sizzix card dies, I just can't justify $25 or $30 for one of them.  I was so happy to find something that works the same way, for $8!  ThePaperCut.com has a bunch of different shapes, and they are more affordable than the Sizzix ones.

How fun is this?!?!  I am going to share this one with the Cards in Envy - Cute and Cuddly challenge.  What is more cute and cuddly than a puppy?

Playing With MORE Techniques

The Color Throwdown has this image as inspiration:
http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/2015/08/color-throwdown-357.html
Love the shade of blue!  Here is my card:
NBUS (never before used stuff) Momenta embossing folder, Spellbinders oval dies for spotlight, paper pieced cupcake.  I spent hours trying to color this image, and none of the 10+ attempts escaped the recycling pile, so paper piecing was required!!!  One of my first (but not last!) spotlight cards - love how the cutout in the card front highlights the cupcake image!

Playing with Techniques

Since Operation Write Home has suspended operations (due to so many of our deployed military coming home - yeah!), I have been playing around with different techniques.  I don't have many things I am willing to show, but have been learning a lot.  Shopping Our Stash has a challenge to use a wet medium.
I masked the square with post it paper, and inked with distress and white inks.  I stamped the SU! Lovely as a Tree and sentiment in navy pigment ink, and heat embossed with silver powder.  Card front layered onto a navy card base.  I thought the navy ink might show through better than it did, oh well!!!

Newsprint

The Male Room Challenge #17 is to use newsprint in a project.  I not only had a piece of 12x12 newsprint paper in my stash - I found it!
I stamped the image onto vellum using Staz On Jet Black, and the sentiment in Red.  I layered the vellum on top of the newsprint.  I originally tried to stamp directly on the paper, but the ink ran.  I like how the vellum tones down the paper, and plays up the vintage feel.

Heat Embossed Background

The Mod Squad Challenge is to heat emboss a background or focal point.

I stamped the floral background in Versamark, and heat embossed with Ranger fine gold powder.  The "A" is an old Stampendous sticker, layered on satin ribbon and a strip trimmed from the background.  I am really happy with this card, and will be making more of them as gifts.  I just wish companies included more "A" and "B" letters in their sticker sheets.  Still lots time to play along with the Words 2 Scrap By August challenge - Calling All Book Lovers!

Fun Glasses Tag

I finally got some play time today.  The past few weeks have been crazy with work, school starting, blah blah blah...

I love how the black and white background works with the patterns on the glasses frames.  Sentiment from Technique Tuesday, image from Unity, background paper from My Mind's Eye Necessities pad.  I'm sharing this with Tag You're It! Challenge #28.  Instead of floating balloons, I have floating glasses, and my sentiment banner is the same as the inspiration piece.  I am also sharing this with the Shopping Our Stash Make a Spectacle of Yourself.

National Book Lover's Day!!!

Today is National Book Lover's Day!  The Words 2 Scrap By challenge is create a project based on a title or quotation from a book.  Here are a few ideas, or choose one of your favorites:
  • Where the Wild Things Are
  • The Good Earth
  • Eat, Pray, Love
  • Winnie-the-Pooh
  • Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus
We tried to choose a collection of books that would appeal to a wide range of themes, situations, and/or interests. If there's another book that sparks your creativity, by all means go with it!

I chose Eat, Pray, Love as my inspiration this time.

Join us in the W2SB Calling All Book Lovers challenge, link up your book-inspired project HERE!

For this project, I stamped my image on three different colors of card stock, and heat embossed in clear.  I cut each image into three panels.  I love this color combo!!  Unity sentiment.

W2SB #20 - Calling All Book Lovers!

Sybrina and I are both voracious readers, and we want to celebrate August 9 - Book Lovers Day!!!  Words 2 Scrap By challenges you to create a project based upon one of these book quotes, or choose one of your favorite book quotes.
  • Where the Wild Things Are
  • The Good Earth
  • Eat, Pray, Love
  • Winnie-the-Pooh
  • Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus
As I often do, I had to put my own spin on the challenge.  My project is based on my favorite quote (from from the first Outlander book), from my favorite fictional character (Jamie Fraser).

When the day shall come
that we do part, if my last words are not
I Love You
Yell ken it was because I dinna have time
-Jamie Fraser

If you haven't read the Outlander book series, or watched the Starz series, you are missing a story line of love that stretches for centuries.  It is well written, amazing detailed, and pretty historically accurate.  Please share project using your favorite quote, or choose from one of ours.  You have until August 28!
