OWH Mid Week Throw Down - Any Hero Thank You

This week’s Mid Week Throw Down challenge at OWH is to make an Any Hero card and use Red, White & Blue.

Over at May Arts, the challenge is for a Patriot's Day card, using this sketch from Sandy Allnock:

Here is my interpretation:

Not my favorite work, but I learned a lot in the proccess.  And that makes it worthwhile!!!  The red and white are ribbons, topped with red rick rack.  The red stars are heat set metals from Design By Dawn.  The card base is liight blue (doesn't show well, but my laptop with my editing software is in the computer hospital).  The other paper layers are navy.  One layer embossed with stars, the other stamped with THANKS from Fiskars.

Here is my interpretation:
DCWV Winter Wonder papers, SU! Bundle Up stamps, Cuttlebug embossing folder, Glossy Accents.

OWH VCMP - Home Sweet Home

Kathryn is the tenth and last hostess for the Operation Write Home's Virtual Card Making Party.  Her challenge is to make a card that represents my home state.

Playing with paper is a current interest, but not my only creative outlet!  I also love fabric and quilting.  For this challenge, I put the two together!

I am living in Ohio, and there is a quilt pattern called the Ohio Star.  Here it is in paper:

The paper is from Deja Views, embossed with a swirl design to mimic meandering quilting.  In person, the ink matches the green in the "quilt" much better than it looks in the photo.  In quilting, the triangles at the bottom are called prairie points.

I have learned SO much from this card making party!  Thanks, Operation Write Home and all of the hostesses!!!

OWH VCMP - Neglected Tools

Shannon is the ninth hostess for the Operation Write Home Virtual Card Making Party.  Her challenge is to use a tool that has been neglected.

For me, I have not used my crimper in forever!

OWH VCMP - Let's Play!!

Cherie's Corner is the eighth hostess for the Operation Write Home Virtual Card Making Party.  Her challenge is to make a sports themed card.

This is SO not my favorite card.  I think my mojo is a bit drained from all of the VCMP fun!!!  I think it is going to live in the bad card pile until I can figure out how to fix it.  Any ideas for me?

Stickers by Me and My Big Ideas.  Papers from DCWV.

OWH VCMP - Christmas is for Kids

Scrapping With a Purpose is the hostess for the second Sunday stop on the Operation Write Home Virtual Card Making Party.  Her challenge?  Christmas is for Kids.  Make a card for a hero to send home to a child.

Sandy posted the cutest folded tree on the OWH Facebook page a few weeks past.  The cardmaker had fringed the edges of the curves of the tree.  I loved the look, and knew I had to try it.  Sybrina's challenge gave me the perfect excuse.   I think the soft greens and pinks make this card qualify as a card for a child, don't you?

I used Heidi Grace paper for the tree, fringed the edges, and dotted with white and clear Glossy Accents, and silver Stickles.  I always layer Glossy Accents on top of any Stickles I use on OWH cards, to be double sure that no glitter is released.  I used the tree pattern from Inspired Treasures.  Star is from Favorite Findings.  On the inside, I stamped "May your holidays be bright with joy and happiness", from Stampabilities.

OWH VCMP - Use Your Punches

The first stop on Sunday's OWH Virtual Card Making Party is from Linda at Creepin Along.  Her challenge is to use punches and OWH Sketch #136.  This one was much easier for me!!!

Here is the sketch:

And here is my card:

SU image from Fresh Vintage (which I won during the July 4th OWH blog hop - from Seongsook!), sentiment from TPC Studios Brush Stroke Greetings, Fiskars punch for the black squares, and Spellbinders Charm Dies for the image squares, bling from K and Company.

OWH VCMP - Western Theme

Sandy's Crafty Creations was the last stop on Saturday fro the OWH Virtual Card Making Party.  Her challenge?  Make a Western themed card.  I confess, this was an extremely difficult challenge for me.  Western is not a theme I have ever worked with!!  I know, that is why they call it a challenge!!  I didn't really have the right kind of paper, but I think it works.

Here is my card.

I used the Cricut cartridge "Just Because" Cards.  Boot was cut at 3", the words were cut at 2".  The background star paper was embossed with a star folder.  The card base is kraft paper, and lined with light paper.  I accented the lining by stamping a few small stars.  I think I need to work on my faux stitching!!!

OWH VCMP - Triple Time

Donna Inks is the hostess for the fourth challenge in Operation Write Home's Virtual Card Making Party.  Her challenge?  A triple time card.  I love the three dimensional look, but prefer using patterned paper.  But, cutting out all of the layers and having them be even is too much work!

So, I opened my trusty SCAL, and made my own cut file.  I used the file to cut the layers on my cutter.  Instead of layering solid pieces of cardstock, I can layer frames of patterned paper and matting!!

You can download the free SVG or SCUT file to cut your own layered cards!  The files contain cuts for both the patterned paper and for the matting.

Lesson learned - make a mark on the back of the patterned paper to indicate which direction each piece should be glued.  Ask me how I know....

Here is the card I made today for Donna's challenge.

I think the paper that I used is a little too busy.  Paper is Hot Off The Press, snowflake accents are Favorite Findings, stamp from TPC Studios.

You can see my previous post on Triple Time Cards here

OWH VCMP - Snowflakes But Not Christmas

Cindy;s Card Company is stop #3 on the Operation Write Home Virtual Card Making Party.  Her challenge is to make a card using snowflakes, but not a Christmas card.

I am a paper hoarder.  Not all paper, just some super special ones.  For me, the Winter Wonder Stack is one of my favorites.  I love to look at the papers, pet them, dream about them.  But use them?  Cut them?  Perish the thought!!!

But this is the perfect project for them.  I used OWH Sketch #68.   The background paper has tiny purple snowflakes.  When I make another one, I won't make the middle strip as wide.  I think it is a bit out of proportion.

Paper DCWV Winter Wonder Stack, the Thank You is a sticker from doodlebug design, snowflakes are Favorite Findings.

Here is version #2 - narrower middle, and 1 embossed background with a snowflake folder.  I like it even better!

OWH VCMP - 1 2 3

Cherie over at Cherie's Corner of the World is the hostess for stop #2 of Operation Write Home's Virtual Card Making Party.  Her challenge?  It's Time To Cook!  Use 1 image, 2 patterned papers, and 3 words.

I used OWH sketch # 73, and here is my version:

Americana cardstock, Fiskars stamp, Spellbinder's Home Sweet Home die.

OWH Virtual Carmaking Party - ODBD Encouragement

Our Daily Bread Designs is the first stop on the Operation Write Home virtual card making party blog hop.

Their challenge - make a card of encouragement.

I used OWH sketch #42, and Basic Grey Olivia paper.  Stamp from Fiskars.
