OWH Mid Week Throw Down - Clean and Simple

This week's challenge is to make a Clean and Simple card.  Perfect for me!  CAS is my favorite style of card, and they are much more difficult than they look.
I CASE'ed this one from My Craftroom Creations

I made a couple different versions:

The one on the left was first.  I wasn't happy with it.  I cut the chevron paper to follow the rule of thirds, but the placement of the ribbon messed that up.   I do like how I trimmed the sentiment banner on this one better than the second card.  The card base is black on the outside, white on the inside.  I like the contrasting layering, and the button I found in my stash was perfect.

The one in the center came second.  I like the proportions better, but the white base lacks the visual pop of the first card.

I often make more than one version of a card, experimenting with different proportions, patterns, and embellishments.  I learn a lot through the process.  I really appreciate Paula's Boot Camp tutorials, they are very specific about a particular aspect of cardmaking.

Update:  I realized that the card needed a pop of color.  Hence the red button.  I love it!!!

Sentiments from Above Rubies Studio, ribbon from my OWH blog candy score, buttons tied with 1/8" ribbon.  Chevron cardstock from MME, polka dot paper from Recollections.  My mother loved going to garage sales, and bought every button she could find for me.  I have thousands of buttons of every size and shape imaginable from which to choose.  Thanks, Mom.  I really miss you.

Let Me Repeat - OWH Boot Camp

The June Boot Camp tutorial is Let Me Repeat - Using Repetition in Design

I "think" I got this one.  I have repeated an element (circle shape and texture, and ribbon), added variation (in color value), but my focal point is not super strong.  Sigh.  Regardless, I love this card!!!

This card is also entered into the Shopping Our Stash Challenge 106:  Geometric Shapes.

SU! ribbon (blog candy from Seongsook Duncan!), TPC Studios sentiment, Sizzix circle dies.

OWH Mid Week Throw Down - Things with Wings

Operation Write Home's Mid Week Throw Down challenge is create a card including Things with Wings

Here is my offering:

Cheery Lynn butterfly die,  Fiskars clear stamp and swirl texture plate, India Brights Papers, Recollections kraft paper base (lined of course!), gold leafing pen on the body and tentacles, scrap trim.

I had a major score at JoAnn's today.  I have been drooling over some 5x7 paper pads of handmade papers from India.  They feel like fabric, and have beautiful foiled patterns in unique colors.  Problem?  The papers are not 5x7, more like 3 3/4 x 5, not very card friendly.  But they were tough to pass up at 70% off, and minus my 15% teacher discount!!!  For $2.55, I can make them work.  I bought 2 different pads.  Yep, I need more paper like a hole in the head...

NOT an OWH card!!!

Once in a while, I actually make cards that don't go to Operation Write Home!  This is in response to Shopping Our Stash Weekly Challenge #105 - No Patterned Paper.

I made this for my niece, who is recovering from reduction surgery.  Jen is not a girly girl, so I wanted to make a very CAS card for her.

The purples match a lot better in person!  SU! Fashion Statements image.  Glitter paper from DCWV Winter, ribbon from OWH blog candy.

OWH Sunday Sketch Challenge #176

This week's sketch challenge over at Operation Write Home looks like this:

176

My versions look like this:

DCWV Safari papers, Sizzix crocodile texture plate, Cuttlebug chevron embossing folder, K&Co Beyond Sentiments vellum stickers, scrap ribbons.  The dark layer on the right hand card is a glitter paper, but it is OWH friendly - I promise!!!

I tried a few different embellishments in the lower left corners.  Multiple textures with the different embossing and ribbon made the cards a little busier than I like.

Did you win my Memorial Day blog candy?  Please check the previous post!

Third Time's a Charm!!!

I can't seem to get anyone to take my blog candy from the Memorial Day Blog Hop!!!

I am going to sweeten the deal, and add ribbon to go along with the stamps.

Our new winner:

Diana from Russells at Richmond Place!!!

Diana, you have until Tuesday to claim, or I will choose another winner.  And add more candy!!!

OWH Sunday Sketch #175

This week's sketch looks like this:
175

 Here is my version:

The silver squares reflect like a mirror, the black squares and pink background papers are almost as shiny.  Pretty effect, awful picture!!

I used grosgrain ribbon as my horizontal strip.  The lettering is a sticker from Doodlebug Designs.
