Mixing Patterns

I’m not very confident when it comes to mixing patterns. My projects generally look like a toddler tried to dress themself. In the dark. So the challenge this week from Just Is Girls to include 2 or more different patterned papers made me break out in a sweat. But I tried anyway.
I die cut the letters from a doodlebug rainbow petite print pad, embossed the background, and heat embossed an old SU sentiment. Not sweating any more, but not sure I’m happy with the placement.

Masculine Birthday

The challenge over at The Male Room is to make a project with an embellishment.  Considering that most embellishments are girly, it took a bit of thinking.
I started with a piece of heavy mirror paper, and embossed it with a Sizzix diamond plate folder.  I used very old Scraps of Time Walnut Ink Crystals semi dissolved in alcohol blending solution.  Even though I wore gloves, I am shocked and surprised) that my hands are NOT stained with the ink!!  I am a bit of a sloppy creator :).  I attached the sentiment with brads (my embellishments).

Happy Birthday!

The Male Room has an Anything Goes challenge, optional twist, no designer papers.  I needed a birthday card for my BIL, so perfect timing!!

Older SU sentiment.  I used a few different alcohol inks to create the distressed/rusted look on the metallic paper, then embossed it with the Diamond Plate folder.  The studs were gold toned.  I sanded them and used the same alcohol inks to make them coordinate with the paper.  I may have to make more of this one!

Golden Deer

I love fall, the leaves, smells, pumpkins.  I just don't love knowing that the cold weather is on the way :(.

The Paper Craft Crew Challenge has an image inspiration:

I paired the Darice Deer in Forest and Inka Gold Brown and came up with this:
Love the contrast between the kraft and the gold.  I made the sentiment from Just Rite letters.

Happy Birthday!

I am back form my latest trip.  I loved spending down time with my family, especially since these times are fewer and further between as my son becomes an adult.  So, back to crafting!!

Mod Squad Lazy Days of Summer

The challenge at the Mod Squad is to feature something that makes me think of the lazy days of summer.  My neighbors planted wonderful bushes and flowers that attract lots of butterflies that I love watching.

Cheery Lynn die, Darice Scroll Flourish embossing folder.

Kissing...

No, not THAT kind of kissing.  Layered stamping!
Very old SU! Oh So Lovely images stamped in Scattered Straw and Soot, colored with those inks, colored pencils, and chalk ink, sentiment from Unity.  I also stamped, colored, and fussy cut the popped up flowers.  The centers are layered on opposite colors.  I used different sized crystals, and I like both sizes for different reasons.  Interesting how the cards, while basically the same, look so different.  Sharing these with Less Is More 259 - Kissing Technique.  There is a New Beginning at Words 2 Craft By, come join us!!

Shopping Our Stash - Western Theme

Wow!  After being absent for the past few weeks, I had a really productive day!!  The Shopping Our Stash challenge is to create a project using an American Western theme.  I admit, this was a tough one for me.  Not really my style, but I am happy with my card.
DCWV papers, sentiment is stamped with an old CD shaped stamp, and die cut.  Hmm.  Maybe I should have embossed the patterned papers with a star folder...  Next time!  Come play along with us at Words 2 Scrap By Movember challenge.

Pearl & Silver

The Mod Squad Challenge this month is to create a project using silver and/or pearl as the main colors.  I didn't know that November is lung cancer awareness month and these are the colors.  Lung cancer can strike anyone, and affects smokers and non-smokers alike.  Many times, it is not diagnosed until the latter stages.  If you have a nagging cough, hoarseness, shortness of breath, trouble swallowing, or anything that just doesn't seem right, see your doctor!!!  (Rant over.)
The embossed layer is an amazing holographic silver metallic card stock.  The butterflies are fussy cut from white pearl paper.  Sentiment heat embossed in black.  Bling is from my stash.  In hindsight, I wish I had used either pearl or black bling, but it is fine the way it is.  I am also linking this up with CAS-ual Fridays Precious Metals challenge, hopefully it is CAS enough!  Be sure to stop by Words 2 Scrap By for our Movember challenge, open through November 28!

Color Throwdown #367

This time around, the Color Throwdown inspiration photo looks like this:
http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/2015/11/color-throwdown-367-countdown.html

Here is my interpretation:
Unity sentiment, Spellbinder flower die, stash sticker, Fresh Vintage papers.  The gold background is very shiny, thus hard to photograph.  Come play along with us at the Words 2 Scrap By Movemeber challenge!

Masculine Tag Card

To me, tags are usually a feminine element.  So I really struggled with this card.

Tim Holtz Steampunk embossing folder and Spellbinder die cut with gold paper, distressed with Staz On black ink.  Unity sentiment on pebbled black card stock.

There's still time to play along with the Words 2 Scrap By June challenge - It's a Man's World!

I'm sharing this card with The Male Room - Add a Tag, and with the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers D is for Dudes.

Shopping Our Stash #138 - Oh, Shiny!!

This week's challenge over at Shopping Our Stash is Oh, Shiny!

A year or so ago, I bought a ton of this shiny card stock for next to nothing.   I love how it looks when embossed with a diamond plate folder.  Makes a nice masculine card.  Operation Write Home is always in need of masculine cards, so I made a bunch of these:

It is such a challenge to photograph reflective surfaces!!!  Old All Night Media sentiment.  Cuttlebug embossing folder.

http://operationwritehome.org/sketch-challenge-201/

My version:

I will be so happy to get my computer back this week.  It is really hard to get photos edited and posts written without my normal tools!!  The diagonal stripe paper is textured with a diagonal stripe embossing plate.  Grosgrain ribbon is 1/4" and 1".
